David Robinson has been associated with the Institute of Policy Studies since 1993 when the IPS Programme on the Voluntary Sector organised a workshop and symposium on the changing nature of the voluntary sector following the public sector reform. The focus of this work moved to exploring the nature of social capital in New Zealand (with Tu Williams and John Cody). IPS has held seminars and published papers from this FRST funded project.
David studied at Victoria University as a mature student completing an Honours degree in Sociology in 1983, since then he has been a partner in the Robinson Driver Partnership carrying out social policy research with a focus on civil society, social capital and not-for-profit law.
David is involved with a number of international civil society organisations. He is a Board member of CIVICUS, www.civicus.org, Project Manager of the Pacific Civil Society Law Programme and a member of the Advisory Council of the International Centre for Not-for-profit Law, www.icnl.org
David is Director of the Social and Civic Policy Institute www.scpi.org.nz, Deputy Chair of the Advisory Committee for the Study of the New Zealand Not-for-profit Sector and a committee member of ANGOA.
