Profile

Following completion of her doctorate at UC Berkeley in 2002, Lindy worked for the Treasury and the Department of Labour before leaving to work as an independent research and policy consultant.  She has worked for a number of government organisations in this capacity, including the Department of Labour, the Ministry of Women’s Affairs, and the Families Commission. Her interests include the intersection between family and labour market policies, including working hours and work-life balance, and the impact of these policies on migration.

She is currently part of the team working on the FRST-funded research project Education capital formation, employment, migration, gender, work-life balance and missing men and is exploring two issues: measurement issues relating to the size and breadth of New Zealand’s diaspora; and the links between lifestyle factors and the behaviours of New Zealand migrants and expatriates.
