Pasifika Project
A series of Pasifika papers have been commissioned by the Chief Executives of the New Zealand Public Service as part of their programme of forward thinking on questions of broad and general significance for New Zealand. Topics include interactions with 'Pasifika' from a number of perspectives, including the Pacific Island economy in New Zealand, the economies of the islands themselves, trades, borders and migration. The 'weave' with the Pacific has implications for many areas of government in New Zealand, including, for example, education, immigration, economic and social development, and sport. Drafts of these papers, which are to be discussed in a symposium in February 2007, are available here to download in pdf form.

Pacific Profiles: 2006 is a series of seven reports produced by Statistics New Zealand. They are based on results of the 2006 census. Each profile provides detailed information for the seven largest Pacific ethnic groups in New Zealand: Samoans, who make up the largest proportion (49 percent); Cook Island Maori (22 percent); Tongans (19 percent); Niueans (8 percent); Fijians (4 percent); Tokelauans (3 percent); and Tuvaluans (1 percent). The profiles include information on demographics, language, religion, families and households, education, the labour force, income, housing, access to amenities such as the Internet, smoking behaviour and number of children born to women. http://www.stats.govt.nz/analytical-reports/pacific-profiles-2006/default.htm________________________________________________________________________
